On September 7 and 8, 2018, the preliminary tournament in the run-up to the second phase of the World Cup qualifiers for men's basketball is going to be staged in Hamburg. The German national team will meet teams from Italy, Turkey and the Czech Republic on the Friday and the Saturday.
VTG is appearing as the name giver at this VTG Supercup for the first time. "We believe that basketball fits in perfectly with the dynamics and agility we offer on the track. As a Hanseatic company, we are therefore very pleased to help the City to continue to stage an international tournament", stated Dr. Heiko Fischer, Chairman of the Executive Board of VTG Aktiengesellschaft, at the press conference held by the German Basketball Federation (DBB) in Hamburg City Hall. Andy Grote, Department of the Interior and Sport, added: "The upward trend of basketball in Hamburg is continuing without interruption. All basketball fans can look forward to the VTG Supercup the top event of the German Basketball Federation which will be held in Hamburg until 2020. I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to this successful cooperation."
The VTG Supercup 2018 will take place in the Inselparkarena in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg, just a stone's throw away from the VTG Center in City South. The VTG Supercup represents a great opportunity for us to create even closer links between business and sport. My personal highlight was seeing Henrik Rödl again, men's national basketball team coach. Back in the days when I regularly played basketball, we often played against each other", Fischer stated happily at the press conference.
